I’m writing a very belated post about my dinner party which took place in Krasnodar within the framework of the third season of the “League of Tenders”, at which I talked about my “Feral Forage” practice and treated participants to dishes prepared using the wild seasonal plants of the region.

The League of Tenders represents a form of collectivity, and in itself is a relational practice that invents new forms of sociality. Primarily, the “League of Tenders” group studies and considers issues concerning disabilities, care and accessibility in the practices of modern art creating a common environment for interaction. But in general the “League of Tenders” is an absolutely fluid structure; its form and content are transparent and they are subordinated to collective, sporadic intentions.

On the first day of my visit to Krasnodar, a participant in “League of Tenders”, Yulia Shafarostova showed me Zaton, a park zone not far from the center. We went there on reconnaissance in order to study the local flora and to put together a menu for the coming lunch.

Я пишу очень запоздалый пост о моем званом обеде, который состоялся 18ого мая в Краснодаре, в рамках третьего съезда “Лиги Нежных”, на котором я рассказывал о своей практике “Дикий Корм” и угощал участников блюдами, приготовленными из диких сезонных растений региона.

“Лига Нежных” представляет собой форму коллективности и сама по себе является реляционной практикой, изобретая новые формы социальности. Изначально группа “Лиги Нежных” исследует и осмысляет проблемы инвалидности, заботы и доступности практик современного искусства, создает общую среду для взаимодействий. Но вообще “Лига Нежных” структура абсолютно текучая, её форма и содержание прозрачны и подчиняются коллективным спорадическим интенциям.

В первый день моего приезда в Краснодар, участница “Лиги Нежных” Юля Шафаростова показала мне Затон, парковую зону недалеко от центра. Сюда мы отправились на разведку, чтобы исследовать местную флору, составить меню будущего обеда.

The following day, together with the organizing committee of the “League”, Lena Ishchenko, Masha Sarycheva and Roma Mustifin, we went out to collect plants. At Zaton we collected black locust (false acacia) flowers, dead-nettles, some nettles and orache/saltbush. Later, at the Typography contemporary art center, we sorted through them all and processed the plants that we’d collected.

In the morning of the next day, I went to Yula Shafarostova’s home. She’d offered me the use of her kitchen and her help in cooking the lunch. We made several pies: a sweet pie with a filling of black locust (false acacia) flowers in an oregano/marjoram syrup. I’d collected the oregano/marjoram in advance in Rostov-on-Don. The savory pies had a filling of dead-nettles, nettles and orache/saltbush. We added some boiled eggs into one of the pies. I’d also brought some pickles to Krasnodar, which I’d made in advance in Rostov-on-Don – marinated russian dock and marinated burdock stalks. During the cooking, Yulia documented the process in photographs.

На следующий день вместе с оргкомитетом “Лиги” Леной Ищенко и Машей Сарычевой и Ромой Мустифиным мы приехали на сбор растений. На Затоне мы собрали цветы белой акации, яснотку, немного крапивы и лебеды. Позже в центре современного искусства Типография мы перебрали и обработали собранные растения.

Утром следующего дня я приехал к Юле Шафаростовой домой, она предложила мне свою кухню и помощь в приготовлении обеда. Мы приготовили несколько пирогов: сладкие пироги с начинкой из цветов акации в сиропе душицы, душицу я ранее собирал в Ростове-на-Дону, несладкие пироги были с начинкой из яснотки, крапивы и лебеды, в один из пирогов мы добавили еще вареных яиц. В Краснодар я привез так же соления, которые сделал ранее в Ростове-на-Дону - маринованный конский щавель и маринованные стебли лопуха. Во время приготовления Юля вела фото документацию процесса.

The dinner was planned for a children’s playground in the Muzykalny neighborhood, which is on the outskirts of Krasnodar. The second congress of the League of Tenders began its work by coming here a month in advance in order to transform this abandoned, derelict clump of land. Обед был запланирован на детской площадке в микрорайоне Музыкальный, это периферийный район Краснодара. “Лига Нежных” второго съезда начала свою работу, придя сюда месяцем ранее, чтобы преобразить брошенный и бесхозный клочок земли. On that hot May day we had a wonderful time discussing practices as we tried the pies and the local plants. I really enjoyed being part of the “League of Tenders” and I’m really looking forward to new interactions with them.
